Are Carnival cruises all-inclusive: here's everything that's included with your Carnival cruise fare

There is speculation that the price point is too low for the Carnival brand. Carnival Cruises charges $59.95/guest and an 18% service charge (pre-cruise) for a CHEERS! The same package is $64.96/day/guest and an 18% service fee while on board. Charging this price point doesn’t seem worth it regarding return on investment. However, down the road, guests may see more of a premium package but with a higher price point. The pivotal point in making this decision may be balancing the ship’s availability for specific cruise ships. The second factor will be whether the cruise line feels the deal will encourage guests to spend more money.

Depending on the current offer, you are entitled to a slew of included amenities or your choice of only a few. The cost to make your cruise all-inclusive is $55 per person per day, added to your cruise fare, and applies only to the first and second guests in each cabin. Four cruise lines cover more costs in their cruise fares than the average line, but not as many things as the truly all-inclusive lines.

Alcohol, whether you buy the drinks a la carte or with a drink package, need to be a cost that you consider. Note that drink packages cannot be used at the private islands, though. Some onboard activities are not included, either, such as BOLT, the roller coaster at sea!

This new pricing strategy, which goes beyond popular drinks packages, has large-ship cruise lines such as Celebrity, Holland America and Princess jockeying to compete with luxury lines and their all-inclusive fares. Small-ship cruise lines Azamara and Windstar have also hopped on the trend. Guests booking a cruise so have the option to purchase extra add ons, which can often be cheaper online before the voyage. Even though there are many venues, services and packages that guests can purchase, the free options can still make a great cruise vacation. What's the difference between the Premium and Ultimate beverage packages in these offers?

The Premium package includes a larger selection of beer than the included list, plus name-brand spirits such as Absolut, Captain Morgan and Bombay Sapphire. The Ultimate package includes all the Premium offerings plus a selection of wine and Champagne by the glass, Evian and Perrier water and more top-shelf spirits. Princess Cruises continues to modify the amenities included in its Princess Plus package, which the cruise line says offers at least a 50% savings over a la carte costs (based on a seven-night cruise). Passengers can also book the Princess Premier package for additional included perks said to offer more than 65% savings. Passengers booking a cruise on any Holland America ship now have the option to get four premium amenities included with the Have It All package. The line's premium package makes a HAL cruise semi-inclusive when passengers upgrade their base fare.

The Love Boat cruise line explores the world on big, but not too big ships, with a particular focus on Alaska sailings. It welcomes everyone from families with kids to retired couples with a variety of onboard offerings and inclusive fare options to suit a variety of budgets and preferences. River cruising also includes the above, except it does not offer alternative restaurant dining, thermal suite spa access, 24-hour room service or self-service launderettes on board. However, you will still have to pay for premium drinks, Wi-Fi, specialty dining, spa treatments and tours.

Cobranded Cards

Seabourn has created a Mindful Living Program in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Weil, an esteemed pioneer in integrative medicine. The line offers complimentary classes with Dr. Weil-trained practitioners in guided meditation, as well as free Pure-Form yoga and Pilates group workouts. Guests in Concierge Suites and above can count on a one-night fancy hotel stay pre-cruise, with transfers, breakfast and porterage. Select itineraries also offer two- or three-night land programs for free. Carnival passengers are provided a complimentary buffet while on the island at two different venues, which offer a range of BBQ favorites along with sides and desserts. Other activities on Half Moon Cay that don't cost anything extra include swimming and snorkeling, as well as basketball, volleyball, shuffleboard, a kids’ playground, and an aqua park.

Shore Excursions

The line has also gotten creative with options for more inclusive fares. Expedition sailings include extra perks in their Port-to-Port fares, such as all in-country economy air travel and pre- or post-hotel night or day use, necessary equipment and gear, and expedition team-led shore excursions. The only major add-ons to your tab are airfare and shore excursions, the fanciest wines and spirits, and spa and salon treatments.

The Excel-class ship features an on-board roller coaster, can transport 5,282 passengers, has 20 dining venues, a dozen bars and lounges and is only the second Carnival ship to use liquid natural gas as fuel — a more eco-friendly fuel source. If you’re thinking of booking a Carnival cruise, be it on the new Carnival Celebration or any of Carnival's other massive ships, here’s what to expect and how to enjoy your time at sea. The Premier Beverage Package costs $84.99 per person, per day, which is more than the price of the Princess Premier all-inclusive package. If you prefer premium wines and spirits and were planning on purchasing the upgraded drinks package, Princess Premier will more than pay for itself. Wi-Fi and crew appreciation (totaling $31-$33 per person, per day) alone account for more than 50% of the $60 per person, per day (or $420 per person for a seven-night cruise) package charge. With less than $30 per day left to break even and with drinks up to $15 included, you don't have to overindulge to get your money's worth. Those premium desserts, casual meals, fitness classes and unlimited juice bar beverages are the icing on the cake.

While Carnival Cruise Line has not indicated it will provide an all-inclusive package, it did provide this option for Princess Cruises, one of its sister brands. The most comprehensive option for two people is the Experience More Indulgence package. It includes the Ultimate Beverage Package for two, unlimited Wi-Fi for two devices, $700 shore excursion credit, $250 onboard spa credit, Chef's Table or Three Table Tour, and five bags of laundry during the voyage. The least expensive option for two people sharing a cabin is the Experience More Essentials package. It includes a Premium Beverage Package for two (with additional beer and spirits selections), unlimited Wi-Fi for one device and a $300 shore excursion credit.

Upgrade to the All-Included fare, and you'll pay more but get more inclusions. (Prices vary by ship, itinerary and sail date.) These fares cover a Classic Drinks Package and Celebrity's Basic Wi-Fi plan. The fares used to cover crew gratuities, but that perk has been phased out. The Main Dining Room will please those looking for the quintessential cruise experience, with nightly three-course meals, sea day brunch, and a sit-down option for breakfast on port days. Cruising has become less of an all-inclusive vacation over the years, with cruise companies selling lots of add-ons to increase onboard spending. However, there are still a lot of things included with your cruise fare.

Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. The additional cost is $49 per person, per day, for adults and $29 for children; solo adult travelers pay $42 per person. Windstar Cruises' hallmark is casual luxury, so the line lets guests choose how inclusive they want their fares to be. Perhaps what passengers rave about the most is complimentary access to the Nordic Spa and that awesome thermal suite mentioned above.
